چکیده
Abstract We study the rheological behaviour of a dense bidispersed suspension varying relative size two dispersed phases. The main outcome our analysis is that an enhanced flowability (reduced viscosity) can be achieved by increasing dispersion ratio explain observed result showing presence large particles increases packing efficiency suspension, leading to reduction contribution contacts on overall viscosity in shear-thickening regime, i.e. where are dominating component.

Generality of shear thickening in dense suspensions.
Suspensions are of wide interest and form the basis for many smart fluids. For most suspensions, the viscosity decreases with increasing shear rate, that is, they shear thin. Few are reported to do the opposite, that is, shear thicken, despite the longstanding expectation that shear thickening is a generic type of suspension behaviour. Here we resolve this apparent contradiction. We demonstrate...
متن کاملShear thickening regimes of dense non-Brownian suspensions.
We propose a unifying rheological framework for dense suspensions of non-Brownian spheres, predicting the onsets of particle friction and particle inertia as distinct shear thickening mechanisms, while capturing quasistatic and soft particle rheology at high volume fractions and shear rates respectively. Discrete element method simulations that take suitable account of hydrodynamic and particle...
متن کاملLocalized stress fluctuations drive shear thickening in dense suspensions.
Dense particulate suspensions exhibit a dramatic increase in average viscosity above a critical, material-dependent shear stress. This thickening changes from continuous to discontinuous as the concentration is increased. Using direct measurements of spatially resolved surface stresses in the continuous thickening regime, we report the existence of clearly defined dynamic localized regions of s...
متن کاملDiscontinuous shear thickening without inertia in dense non-Brownian suspensions.
A consensus is emerging that discontinuous shear thickening (DST) in dense suspensions marks a transition from a flow state where particles remain well separated by lubrication layers, to one dominated by frictional contacts. We show here that reasonable assumptions about contact proliferation predict two distinct types of DST in the absence of inertia. The first occurs at densities above the j...

We study the rheology of cornstarch suspensions, a non – Brownian particle system that exhibits discontinuous shear thickening. Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), the local properties of the flow are obtained by the determination of local velocity profiles and concentrations in a Couette cell. For low rotational rates, we observe shear localization characteristic of yield stress fluids. Wh...
